Text: 2 Samuel 7:1-17

Even plans made with the best intentions must sometimes be put on the back burner.  David was facing a crisis of conscience.  He was living in a palace while the ark of the Lord, the physical representation of the Lord’s presence with his people, was sitting in a tent.  How was this just?  How was this fair?  David desired to build the Lord a house but the Lord had a greater plan.  The Lord’s plan was for David to have a house even greater than his palace made of cedar.  So the Lord made a promise that culminated in the rule of David’s greater son Jesus Christ; a promise that cannot be cancelled by death, cannot be broken by sin, and cannot be exhausted by time.
