In these opening verses of his letter, Peter has been dwelling on the gift of grace that we understand to be the gospel.  He has looked at it from the perspective of the Father who has caused to be born and who is keeping guard over all his children.  He has looked forward to the revelation of the Son who has accomplished our salvation and into whose image we are being formed by the trials of our lives.  In verses 10-13 he reflects on the work of the Holy Spirit to nurture, reveal, and deliver the message of salvation through the prophets and through the disciples.  The examples of the prophets, the disciples, and the Spirit all teach us one crucial truth: it’s not about us.
